Root Canal Treatment

root-canal-treatment

A root canal, also known as an endodontic treatment is recommended when the pulp of the tooth becomes infected by bacteria. To save the tooth from extraction the tooth pulp must be removed by root canal.
Without treatment, the infected pulp can cause pain, swollen gum, and sensitivity to hot and cold drinks.
After the root canal procedure, a crown will be placed over the tooth to protect the root canal.

If you need treatment for a root canal, our dentists at Sun Dental Gallery in Côte des Neiges are here to help you. Contact us and see how we can help you with all your dental needs.

How long does a root canal take to heal?

During the first few days after the procedure, the tooth may feel sensitive, over-the-counter painkillers can reduce your discomfort, and applying a cold compress may also help. You should brush and floss the area around the tooth gently.
If you experience pain or soreness for more than a few days, it’s time to contact your dentist.

What to do after a root canal?

To ensure a smooth recovery there are several things that you can do after your root canal:

  • You should avoid chewing sticky foods or biting hard foods and hard substances on the treated tooth until it is fully restored.
  • You should continue with the normal oral hygiene routine after your root canal treatment unless your dentist instructs you otherwise.
  • You should avoid any hard activities for a few days during the first few days.
  • You should avoid exercise like running and tough sports because it can cause you to bleed and make you feel achy.

How much does a root canal cost?

The cost of a root canal depends on the complexity of the procedure and the affected tooth.
Most dental insurance policies provide some coverage for root canal treatment.
Also, as a member of ASEQ (Québec Student Health Alliance) we offer an extra discount for students depending on their university and association.
