Wisdom tooth extraction

Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to come through your gum at the back of your mouth. Most people’s wisdom teeth erupt between the ages of 17 and 21 and some people may not have any wisdom teeth at all.

Sometimes, there isn’t always enough space in the mouth for the wisdom tooth to grow properly into the right position and it gets stuck and emerges only partially. When this occurs, they are called impacted wisdom teeth, and they can cause pain, swelling, or infection.
Some dentists will advise removing them to help prevent problems at an early stage.

What to do after wisdom tooth surgery

  • Bite down on a gauze pad

Your dentist will place gauze over the site of the tooth removal and ask you to bite down on a gauze pad to stop the bleeding. It helps form blood clots in the gums faster. blood clots are part of the healing process as they protect the exposed bone and the wound from infection.

  • Take pain relievers as prescribed by your dentist.

If your dentist prescribes pain relievers, you should take them as directed.
If he prescribes antibiotics to combat and prevent infections you should complete the prescribed dosage.

  • Avoid heavy physical activity

Exercise can cause an increase in blood pressure, which can cause the extraction area to bleed.

  • Avoid drinking alcohol, smoking, and drinking hot liquids
